Protect Your Family With Chimney Sweeping

When chimneys aren’t regularly cleaned, they can become a time bomb. Soot and creosote, highly flammable substances, accumulate on chimney walls and can catch fire under the right conditions. Moreover, a blocked chimney means harmful gasses like carbon monoxide can’t escape, posing a serious risk to everyone inside.

Hiring our chimney cleaning services is the best solution for enhancing your home’s efficiency. A clean chimney has better airflow, making your heating system work less and warming your home faster, saving you money on energy bills. It also lowers the risk of chimney fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.

What’s Included in a Chimney Sweep, and What It Costs

Our chimney sweep service is $329, and that price includes a Level 1 inspection. The National Fire Protection Association’s NFPA 211 standard calls for an inspection any time a chimney is swept, so we build it into every visit. One appointment covers both.

The appointment itself is straightforward. We sweep the firebox, the smoke chamber, and the full chimney flue using professional rods, brushes, and an industrial vacuum that keeps the mess out of your living room. While we work, we check every readily accessible part of the system to confirm the structure is sound and the components meet current codes. If everything checks out, you’re done for the year. If something needs a closer look, we’ll recommend a Level 2 inspection with a video scan of the flue, and we’ll explain exactly why.

So the $329 covers the sweep and the Level 1 inspection. If your chimney needs anything beyond that, you’ll get it in writing, with photos and a firm price, before we touch a thing.

Why Fall Books Up, and Why Summer Is the Smart Time

Every October our phones light up with homeowners across Rockville, Bethesda, and Silver Spring who want the fireplace ready for the first cold night. Book in late summer or early fall and you get your pick of appointment times. Any repairs we find also have time to get done before burning season instead of during it.

Common Questions About Chimney Sweeping

How often should I have my chimney swept?

NFPA 211 recommends an annual inspection for every chimney, with sweeping as needed based on use. For most families who burn regularly through the winter, that works out to a sweep every year. If you only burn occasionally, the annual inspection tells you honestly whether a sweep is due. We don’t sweep chimneys that don’t need it.

How long does a chimney sweep take?

Most sweeps take about an hour, including the Level 1 inspection. Heavy creosote buildup can run longer.

What’s the difference between a sweep and an inspection?

A sweep is the physical cleaning of the firebox, smoke chamber, and flue. An inspection evaluates the condition of the system. Our $329 sweep includes a Level 1 inspection. The deeper Level 2 inspection is $279, adds a video scan of the flue and a full written report, and is the right call for new customers, real estate transactions, or any time something seems off.

Does a clean chimney really matter that much?

Yes. Creosote, the residue wood smoke leaves behind, is flammable. It’s the fuel in most chimney fires. A blocked flue can also push carbon monoxide back into the house. A yearly sweep deals with both risks at once.
